UPDATE 8/7/13 Dillons has revised their coupon policy, effective 8/21/13 Dillons Double coupons ends, see the new Dillons coupon policy HERE.
UPDATE 6/23/11: Dillons has released an updated coupon policy, the only major change being that Dillons will no longer accept expired coupons, see details: HERE
UPDATE 4/1/11: Stacking of eCoupons & manufacturer’s coupons together is now being phased out completely, see my post HERE.
I have been communicating with with Dillons Corporate today, and it turns out there was a miscommunication when the “new” coupon policy was issued for Dillons stores a couple of days ago. Apparently, this coupon policy was never meant for the Dillons chain of stores and was sent out to all the stores in error. This error has now been fixed! So, what that means basically, is whatever your store’s coupon policy was in the past remains the same. Sheila, the Communications Coordinator for Dillons Stores, provided me with the below Coupon Guidelines for Missouri & Kansas Dillons Stores. Keep in mind, these are guidelines, and as the last statement in these guidelines state: “The store manager has the right to accept, decline, or limit the use of ANY coupon(s).” She also thanked all of us for shedding light on the problem of the erroneous coupon policy to begin with. Seriously, it was great how we all worked together to find a solution to the problem, a big THANKS for everyone’s comments and efforts reaching Dillons Corporate to resolve this snafu. She also asked if I heard of any bad experiences using coupons in any specific store in the future to let her know. So, if any of you have any problems, let me know and I will pass along the information to her.
(Includes all Dillons and Gerbes locations)
Coupons Guidelines-Please see below for general coupon guidelines, valid at Dillons and Gerbes locations across Kansas and Missouri.
Doubling Manufacturer’s Coupons
With the use of the customer’s Dillons shoppers card:
Manufacturer coupons will double up to and including $0.50 to $1.00 (i.e.: $0.25 coupon will double up to $0.50. A $0.50 coupon will double to $1.00.)Manufacturer coupons with a face value of $0.51 through $0.99 will receive an additional discount to make the total coupon (with discount) equal $1.00 (i.e.: $0.60 coupon will receive a $0.40 coupon discount to $1.00)Doubling does not apply to free, store, digital coupons, or items prohibited by law.
Expired Coupons
- As a practice, we do discourage the use of expired coupons. However, we will accept expired coupons up to two weeks following the coupon’s expiration date.
Tax with Coupons
- Customers are responsible for taxes any item redeemed with a free coupon.
Store Coupons (from Dillons or Kroger)
- All store coupons (issued from Dillons or Kroger) are good for one use only. Store coupons cannot be doubled, are nontransferable, and duplication of these coupons is prohibited.
Digital Coupons from www.dillons.com or www.gerbes.com
- Customers will have the opportunity to load manufacturer and store coupons directly to their Dillons shopper’s card at www.dillons.com or www.gerbes.com.
- Customers may create an account using their Dillons shopper’s card for coupon offer. They can easily “clip” coupon offers from the site and load them directly to their shopper’s card for instant savings at the register.
- Digital coupons are available approximately one hour after loading.
- Digital coupons are limited to a one-time use. A limit of 150 coupons can be added per shopper’s card. All digital coupon values reflect exact discounts at the register – digital coupons will not double.
- SEE UPDATE AT TOP OF PAGE (no longer allowed): Digital coupons will stack with manufacturer, store, and internet print-at-home coupons.
- Digital coupon offers will be updated each month. See site for expiration dates.
Internet Coupons / Print at Home (PAH) Coupons
- We do accept print-at-home (PAH) Internet coupons in our stores. Additional print-at-home coupons are also available at www.dillons.com or www.gerbes.com.
- “Buy one get one free” Internet coupons will be accepted, if the coupon requirements are met.
- Black and white copies of Internet coupons featuring barcodes will be accepted.
- There are no limits on the number of Internet print-at-home coupons that can be redeemed in the transaction; however Internet print-at-home coupons do not stack (i.e. one coupon per item, if the coupon requirements are met).
- Management does reserve the right to reject any Internet coupon, which appears to have been altered or fails to scan properly.
Competitor Coupons
- We do accept competitor Pharmacy coupons, up to the face value, if all requirements are met. The competitor Pharmacy coupons must be handled in the Pharmacy only. We do not accept any other competitor coupons.
Management Discretion
- The store manager has the right to accept, decline, or limit the use of ANY coupon(s).
Thanks Sheila, for all your help!

I did want to mention a small problem I had just this past Sunday. I went to a Dillons that I’ve never been to before, and handed over four legitimate PAH Internet Coupons. They were the $2 off 1 Ball Park Frank, and printed from my black & white laserjet. (My family has multiple computers so I was able to get more than two coupons.) They tried to tell me they didn’t take internet coupons any more, with out even scanning them. I understand the right to reject if they are not scanning or look like they were altered but mine weren’t copied. They each have their one unique bar code thing in the upper right hand corner!! And besides that they very likely could have come from their own Dillons website, in this case they didn’t but I could see this same thing happening!! They finally took them and said they’d do it just this once. I’m thinking yeah just once because I’m not bringing my coupons back here!! It seems any time there is a quantity larger than two they get HIGHLY suspicious. What’s been going on to raise so much concern? I am the oldest of five kids in my family I do all the grocery shopping and I HAVE A LARGER THAN AVERAGE USA FAMILY! (They don’t get that!)
The other question I have is are they actually getting reimbursed for the manufacture’s coupons from like Target’s web site. You know the ones that are Manufacture’s but have a Target logo on them. I’ve been told Dillons isn’t being reimbursed for them so they can’t take them?
Grace says
Not meaning to get mad at you just trying to express my frustration with Dillons stores.
By the way the store I went to was in Andover, KS. 225 E Cloud (316) 733-3721
Fritzie says
Hi Grace,
I will pass along the information from your negative experience at the Andover store. I would strongly suggest you call Dillons Corporate Customer Service number and let them know about your experience too. They have always been very helpful, the number is: 1-800-362-2183. They should have no problem accepting black & white IPs, especially since it was a bricks coupon which is clearly a legitimate coupon. The Target coupons are manufacturer coupons and they will be reimbursed (but, that being said, it is very much a YMMV situation since the Target logo is plastered all over the coupons, other retailers are reluctant to accept them).

Just had a question about this: “Digital coupons will stack with manufacturer, store, and internet print-at-home coupons.”
From the Dillons’ digital coupon page, after I loaded my coupons and clicked on more info under each individual coupon, it specifically states “Digital coupons and paper coupons may not be combined on the purchase of a single item.”
So, is the first statement simply that…a statement (that it is possible that they WILL stack)? However, as stated directly on their digital coupons, it would be immoral and perhaps against policy to do so? Thanks!
Fritzie says
Cindy,
The coupon policy above is what I received directly from Dillons Corporate. That being said, though, the policy also states “The store manager has the right to accept, decline, or limit the use of ANY coupon(s).” And I have heard several locations have stopped accepting E-coupons with mfg. coupons, while some are still accepting both, so YMMV. You’ll need to check your store for their policy on that.

Just got home from a shopping trip to Dillons in McPherson, KS & the cashior informed me that they no longer stacked man. q’s with ecoupons…. wish I had read your blog this afternoon when I was mapping out my shopping trip.
I will definately start a feed to your blog to keep up to date on Dillon’s policy!

I was wondering where I can print out the official Dillons coupon policy for my own records. I have been searching their website all week for it and have not been able to find it. Thanks for all the information and help. I really appreciate it.
Fritzie says
Hi Nora,
Dillons doesn’t have an official corporate policy posted on their site. For an “official” policy, the best bet is probably to email Dillons HERE and request the coupon policy for your specific store.
Nora says
Thank you very much.
Megan says
I was wondering what their policy was when the coupon exceeded the amount of the item. I received from a register coupon a $3.00 off any Gillette deodorant. When I tried to use the coupon the person said that they could not accept coupons that exceeded the cost of the item and that he could not reduce it down. Is this true? Thank you!
Kristien says
Here is a copy of the current coupon policy e-mailed to me by the home office. It says that you can stack one store coupon and one paper Manufacturer coupons. Unless I missed it, I have never seen this anywhere before. (E-mail copied below.)
The store manager has the right to accept, decline or limit the quantity of coupons or items used or purchased in a single transaction, by a single customer, or in a single day.
Double Coupons:
o Coupons may be doubled at Stores 1-125
o Coupons are not doubled at stores 300-323.
o Customers must use their Loyalty card to receive double coupons.
o Coupons will only be doubled up to a dollar: a $0.35 coupon will double to $0.70; but a $0.75 coupon will “double” to $1.00.
o Manufacturer coupons $.50 or less will automatically be doubled when they are scanned or manually entered, unless otherwise stated on the coupon.
o Manufacturer coupons with a face value of $.51 or greater are not doubled and will be redeemed at face value
o Doubling does not apply to “Free”, Kroger, Catalina, Retail Food Store coupons, Electronic Coupons on the Plus card or items prohibited by law.
Pharmacy Coupons:
o Competitor pharmacy coupons are accepted.
o LCM or Competitor Coupons may not be used in conjunction with our $4 Generic Program.
General Coupon Policy:
o Limit one (1) manufacturer coupon per item purchased.
o Limit one (1) store coupon per item purchased.
o One (1) manufacturer and one (1) store coupon can be used on the same item.
o Coupons cannot be used on “free” items.
o Expired coupons are not accepted.
o Amount refunded cannot exceed the cost of the item.
o Customers must purchase the items on the coupon to get credit for the coupon.
o Internet coupons are accepted as long as they will scan at the register.
PRINT-AT-HOME (PAH) COUPONS:
We only accept printable coupons if they scan properly at checkout.
We do not accept “free product” printable coupons that have no purchase requirement.
Buy-one-get-one-free coupons and other values that have a purchase requirement are acceptable but will be MUCH less common than traditional value-off coupons.
We do not accept coupons for more than about 75% of a product’s value without advance notice.
Legitimate PAH coupons will not be for a high value relative to the cost of the item. For example, a $2.00 off coupon will be acceptable for a product that normally sells for $5.00 or more, but a $2.00 off printable coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 is unlikely to be legitimate.
Coupons will be rejected if they appear out of proportion or blurry, or are obvious duplicates.
Legitimate PAH coupons are never copied, sold, or traded. Nearly all coupons are “non-transferable,” meaning they should not be photocopied or scanned and distributed to others.
Coupons will be rejected if they appear to have been altered in any way.
PAH coupons can be checked for validity at: http://www.printcoupons.com.
Dan says
Are the electronic Dillons coupons considered “Store Coupons”? And if so, they can be used with manufacturers coupons, or is it just the Dillons mail out store paper coupons?
Thanks
Fritzie says
Hi Dan, No, the eCoupons are manufacturer’s coupons & cannot be stacked with the paper coupons.

This might have been discussed above, but I have a question about a particular coupon. I shop at Dillons and depending on which cashier I chose, this coupon works. Other times it doesn’t.
Example: Save $1.00 on Cheerios when you buy 3 boxes.
I watched a coupon training video that said that if you have 3 of these coupons, you can buy only 3 boxes and save $1 on each box. Before I watched the video, I would have thought that you needed to buy 9 boxes if you wanted to use 3 of these coupons. Or use one coupon and buy 3 boxes.
So sometimes it works for me and other times the cashier tells me I need to buy 9 boxes if I want to use 3 coupons.
I tried to talk to customer service about this and they told me I would have to buy 9 boxes. I have read their coupon policy, but am still confused. Can anyone help me with this particular coupon question?
Fritzie says
Angela, The video you watched was not correct. You would need to buy 9 boxes. And feel free to email me frugalfritzie (at) gmail (dot) com, I would love to know the source of this video, thanks!

I went to Dillons in Salina, KS and they no longer double coupons. I recently moved from KS and upon visiting after only a month and a half, I was very mad and shocked they did not double. I wrote to customer service via their website but will call if I don’t hear anything. Have you heard of any changes? I can not find any updates online. The cashier also stated that the state of KS will be taxing all coupons $0.10 per coupon although that did not reflect in my receipt.
Fritzie says
Jessica, which store in Salina was this? Let me know and I’ll contact corporate about your experience.

I went to the Dillons at the Corner of Battlefield and Campbell Tuesday night. I picked up 20 of the Mac and Cheese and 10 of the Keebler cookies and 3 eggs. I had been out of town and just wanted to get a few things.
The manager started drilling me about coupons and telling me they had a new policy about 8. And I said I only had 1 or 2 and he kept rattling something about they are limiting to 8. It was late I had just got back in town but he keep saying well we have a new policy and we only take 8. I just thought you might want to check it out. I think he was the manager and his name was Ed.
Tiffany Cody says
Hi!
Just was reading this. I was advised that a new “policy” came out advising that they no longer will give overages on coupons. So if an item is 99 and you have a 1.50 off then they will only give you the value @ .99 even thought they are going to redeem the coupon at the 1.50 rate plus the handling fee that manufacture pays (normally .08). The Customer Care Manager was really rude about it and continued to tell me about this new policy that isn’t published anywhere. This was in Lawrence KS the 4701 6th street store. Donita was the Customer Service Manager.
If you could let me know if you can get anywhere with this I appreciate it. I know that the managers can choose to accept or deny a coupon but I didn’t know they had the right to change the value of the coupon.
Thanks for all you do!
Tiffany
Amber says
Did Dillons recently change their policy again. The Dodge City Store says they will no longer accept Overages. They wouldn’t let us use the coupon at all. I thought they would at least adjust it down?
