Joplin Tornado Anniversary
Three years ago today, on May 22nd, 2011 a devastating EF5 tornado hit Joplin, Missouri. 161 lives were lost and a total of 7,500 residential dwellings were damaged or destroyed during the Joplin tornado. Out of that 7,500 about 4,000 homes were destroyed. Since that time over 175,000 volunteers have logged over one million hours of service from those registered through AmeriCorps and many other organizations. I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone that has helped over the years. It means so much more than words can ever express. While a lot of us still bear both physical and emotional scars from the Joplin tornado, the outpouring of love and support has helped us heal tremendously. On that note, I wanted to share this amazing video posted from “We Are Joplin” on YouTube. ♥ #JoplinStrong

It’s easy for so many of us that were not affected directly by this tragedy to forget how devastating it was. May Joplin continue to grow stronger and stronger!
