Joplin Walmart Neighborhood Market
The new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Joplin is now open as of today May 1st, 2014. I was curious to see what a Walmart “Neighborhood Market” was so I stopped in for the Grand Opening today to check it out. For the Grand Opening, the Joplin Walmart Neighborhood Market had all sorts of free samples and fun mascots there for the event. The Weinermobile was even on display outside along with Jack Link’s Sasquatch, fun! 🙂

I especially got a kick out of the Weinermobile, doesn’t it look like it would be fun to drive around?! 😉  By the way, you can click on each picture to see an expanded view.
When we walked into the store we were greeted by Mr. Scrubby (pictured above). How cute is he?! 😉
So, these Walmart Neighborhood Markets are quite a bit smaller than the Walmart SuperCenters, this location is about 41,000 sq ft and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I found the store to be very user-friendly and easy to find items.
I got a kick out of their Baking Aisle, where they have frying pans and cooking utensils next to the baking goods. I would say they are definitely trying to make it convenient for shoppers. It has been mentioned that two more Walmart Neighborhood Markets are possibly coming to Joplin in the future. While it is great to see businesses open in Joplin, I worry about Walmart dominating the market in this area. We really need more (a lot more) Grocery Store options, especially since to the tornado. We do have a CVS coming to Joplin soon, so that’s good, now if only more Grocery Stores would consider opening up here as well, that would be simply awesome!
