My Latest Shopping Trip Adventures
I ran to the Price Cutter yesterday morning to take advantage of their Kraft B1G1 Sale.. I hit a couple snags along the way, which was not the slightest bit surprising to me. If I ever run into issues, it is almost always at my nearest Price Cutter store. I do love Price Cutter’s sales, their meat markdowns and the fact that they do double coupons. Having said that though, there are a couple things that have bothered me about this store that have NOT changed over the last few years (for me anyway)…

One of the things that bothers me about my local Price Cutter is that they frequently have expired items on their shelves. And I don’t mean markdowns, I mean regular items on the shelves in various departments. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have told them about expired items on numerous shopping trips over the years (including hot dogs several months after the expiration date, I mean, UGH!). I tend to be a little obsessive about reading dates on labels and apparently it is for a very good reason! Another thing that bothers me is prices come up wrong at the register fairly often. I don’t always catch these mistakes at the register, but I do always try & remember to check my receipt in the car before I leave the parking lot. This trip, I found a $3.50 mistake, yoiks! Seriously, it is beyond irritating when you spend time & energy saving money with coupons only to have it negated by price mistakes. Anyway, rant over. 😉 I generally try and keep it positive in my posts, but I am hoping by mentioning this that it will help someone else save money and a few headaches along the way.

Use $1/3 Keebler Cookies coupon from the 8/3 RedPlum insert

My Walmart Shopping Trip:
My Walmart excursion was a whole lot less eventful, it all went very smoothly, yay!
- 2 Blueberries 1 pint – $0.99 each
- Strawberries 1 lb – $1.25
- Black Grapes – $0.78 lb, $1.77 total.
- Mini Bell Peppers 1 lb – price matched $1.99 (Dillons).
- V8 Juice 46 oz – price matched $1.69 (Dillons).
- Ocean Spray Juice Cocktail 64 oz – price matched $1.69 (Dillons).
- Eggs 12 ct – price matched $0.99 (Price Cutter, limit 1 w/additional $10 purchase).
- 2 Kraft Mayo 30 oz – price matched $1.50 (Price Cutter), Used 2 $0.50/1 Kraft Mayo Coupons. The cashier at Price Cutter wouldn’t take these or the Planters coupons because of the Walmart wording. I attempted to explain that they were manufacturer’s coupons and they didn’t say redeemable ONLY, but it was a no go with this particular cashier. Like I said, if I ever run across issues, it is almost always at my nearest Price Cutter. LOL That’s ok, I wasn’t happy with the Kraft Mayonnaise at Price Cutter because they all expired in September, like a month from now. We don’t go through Mayo very quickly, so I was happy to pay $0.50 more and get MUCH fresher mayo at Wally World. 😉
- 2 Planters Peanuts 16 oz – price matched $1.75 (Price Cutter), Used 2 $0.75/1 Planters Peanuts Coupons.
- Apples – $0.97 lb, $1.64 total
- Dole Pineapple Juice – $2.48, Used $1/1 coupon here & got $1 back from Checkout 51.
- Blue Diamond Almond Milk half gallon – $2.98, Used $1/1 coupon previously available.
- Great Value Garbanzo Beans – $0.68
- Final Cost $22.16 + got $1 back from Checkout 51.
Note: I also submitted my receipt to Walmart’s Saving Catcher program.

I’m with you about Target! It’s so frustrating when they’re out of the stuff they’ve advertised! I’ve been at the beginning, middle, and end of the week – they’re still out!
FYI – Worden’s Meat in Webb & Joplin runs a $1.99/lb hamburger special every few weeks. It’s the 80/20 mix and sold in 1 lb packages. Hormone and antibiotic free. I used to buy my hamburger at Sam’s, until I found out about Worden’s!

Thanks for the tip! 🙂

I SO agree with you about Price Cutter’s expired items. I no longer shop there except for maybe a quick run-in since they are closer to me than Walmart. Once I picked up a frozen pizza that expired 4 YEARS before. I have found meds that were expired. Another favorite was evaporated milk at Thanksgiving that was expired. Makes me wonder if they deliberately buy expired items to lower their costs. They have pretty much lost all my business. Doesn’t it make you wonder about the quality of their meat???? It takes too long to shop there when you have to checked every item to make sure it isn’t past date. Ugh.

4 years, YUCK! I still shop there, but not as often as I used to in the past. I take advantage of their sale items and double coupon deals, but that’s about it. It does take time to scrutinize every item for sure. Maybe people in other regions have better luck with their local Price Cutter, I hope!?

My biggest problem with Price Cutter’s expireds is that they don’t seem to care, even when you point it out to them! I asked today about three slabs of ribs in the meat department that expired two weeks ago, wondering if they’d been frozen. Nope, the butcher replied, seemingly unconcerned at how out of date they were. They frequently cut off the old packaging and re-wrap or relabel meat to hide old sell-by date stickers, too, but those are usually then marked down, so you’re theoretically at least “warned”, if not informed when the actual expiry date was.

Did a quick run in to price cutters this morning to buy a graham cracker pie crust. I was half way to the checkout and remembered to check the date. Sure enough, it expired July 30. I gave it to the cashier. I had thought about stepping on it so they didn’t restock it. Hate that store. Hate it hate it hate it.

I run into a few expired items at my store but they are usually apologetic and discard the item. My new problem is like you said about the cashier not taking certain coupons because they have a Walmart logo and say “redeemable at”. I argued nicely with her but to no avail. Spoke to the store manager and same thing. He told me that their clearing house wouldn’t take them. I told him I can take these to Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, etc. and they take them because they are manufacturers coupons and don’t say ONLY at Walmart. I had to ask for corporate number and called them. Guy said that he would pass this on to a regional director to have a talk with their stores. Doubt it!! He didn’t even ask my name, number, email or anything so I could be contacted if needed. It is very annoying when they don’t understand coupons and how it helps those of us who are trying to feed our families. Thanks for all you do!!

This was on the Price Cutter facebook page today. Someone asked about the “redeemable at” coupons. Here is the question and response—— to price cutter
Please clear something up for me. I was under the impression that this was a manufactures coupon and would be accepted anywhere that takes coupons. This says redeemable at Walmart but I have used these at Target, Walgreens etc without issues. Sometimes Price Cutter takes them sometimes not. It is very frustrating to have a shopping plan only to get to the register and they won’t take any of your coupons. I have seen coupons that say Redeemable ONLY at Walmart, Target etc. I can understand why those wouldn’t be taken. Please clear this up for me so I will know where to take my business. Thank you.
Price Cutter response—Ms. Treavor – Thank you for reaching out to us and bringing this to our attention. I was able to get confirmation that we do indeed accept these coupons. I do apologize for the misunderstanding on this at store level. We will make sure our store management is educated on this matter. Thanks again for your comment! Have a great day! – Anthony
We will see if they follow through!
